Wendy McAllister

Storyboard Artist
Illustrator

Wendy has been churning out storyboards in Vancouver's film industry since 1993. Originally, she had the inkling to go into animation but was talked out of it (by an animator!) and pushed toward a career in commercial illustration. Fate, with a dollop of luck, intervened and Wendy found herself employed as a storyboard artist on a low budget feature in Hollywood North. That movie, "Crackerjack" (North American Pictures), was the first move on the long dolly track of a film business career.

After her initial start, Wendy hopped from show to show both big and small, on commercials, television series, Movies of the Week, and Feature films. Some notable productions she crewed on were: TV series: "Dark Angel", "Seven Days", "The Fearing Mind", "U/C: Undercover", "Higher Ground", "First Wave", "So Weird", "Poltergeist: the Legacy"... Some MoWs were: "Class Warfare", "Quarantine", "Max Q; Emergency Landing" (2nd storyboard artist), "Volcano; Fire on the Mountain", "Echo, Them"...
Features include "Saving Silverman","3000 miles to Graceland", "Free Willy 3", "Happy Gilmore", and "Tales from the Crypt: Bordello of Blood". She also provided storyboards on commercials for "Pampers", "Ping, Iams", "Kraft Handi-snacks", "Rice-a-Roni", "Tyco"," MCI", "SouthWest Bell"...

What lured Wendy to the wonderful world of film was animation, on the weekends as a kid she would get up early to spend hours watching Saturday morning cartoons, followed by Saturday afternoon Sci-Fi. Sundays were even better, with old Tarzan movies, classic Hollywood films, sword and sandal pictures - many featuring Ray Harryhausen's amazing creations!

The blockbuster movies of the Seventies and early Eighties made an even larger impression. "Jaws", "Star Wars", "Close Encounters of the Third Kind", "Alien", "Raiders of the Lost Ark", and "Blade Runner". They were completely stunning - most featured TV specials that peeked behind the curtain to see how the magic was done. Wendy wanted to be a part of the magic, and by a strange course of luck, it happened.

Able to think in a million different directions and around some corners, Wendy has been a creative force to be reckoned with on many productions. Aside from storyboarding, she has provided conceptual designs, graphics and illustrations, and research material for several shows. She is driven to produce the best, the most dynamic storyboards in the fastest time possible to make each show the best it can be.

Wendy is also planning to expand on her commercial illustration career, and is developing a number of daily cartoons in hopes that one will one day find itself in your daily newspaper. Her biggest motivation was to find a career doing something you love, rather than settling for a job that you tolerate.
